Pre And Post Surgical Care

Treatment prior to surgery can greatly affect your recovery rate following surgery. It may also prolong the need for surgery by lessening your pain levels and increasing your range of movement.

For many aches and pains, sometimes it feels like the only answer is surgery, especially if you have had X-rays done which show up marked arthritis or you have lived with the pain for years.

How we can help

  • Doing a thorough assessment of your foot and ankle joints to determine the cause of your pain
  • Advising you of the many conservative options available to you prior to surgery
  • Explore bracing or orthotics to help manage your symptoms
  • If applicable, take you through a course of Foot Mobilising to increase the movement through your foot and ankle joints while decreasing your pain
  • Advise foot and ankle strengthening exercises to ensure good strength and movement prior to surgery, this helps speed up recovery.

If you go through the above and find your are still in pain, we can refer you to an excellent foot and ankle surgeon for their input and advice regarding surgical options.

If you’ve had surgery and you are still in pain, we can help

Following surgery there is often a lot of scar tissue, limited movement or altered movement patterns, which can result in pain. If you have had a fusion of a joint in your foot or ankle, the body will look to find more movement through other joints of the lower limb, which can result in overload and subsequent pain. We can guide you through the appropriate post surgical treatment plan to ensure you are able to function to the best of your ability with as little pain as possible.

Some post surgical issues we treat

  • Mid tarsal joint fusions
  • Ankle joint fusions
  • Bunioneictomies
  • Toe straightening
  • Morton’s neuroma
  • Tendon release/tendon transfer – eg Achilles, plantar fascia
  • Post traumatic surgery eg broken ankle
  • Calcaneal fracture & repair
